Introduction
“Dirt Cups” were the ultimate treat when I was a kid, and this graveyard version takes it to a whole new spooky level for Halloween. Layering creamy chocolate pudding with crunchy Oreo “dirt” is already delicious, but adding gummy worms and a cookie tombstone makes it the perfect, easy Halloween dessert that brings out the kid in everyone.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Classic Kid Favorite: An easy, fun dessert that children adore.
- Simple Assembly: Uses pre-made pudding and cookies for quick preparation.
- No Baking Required: Perfect for when you need a fast dessert.
- Fun to Decorate: Kids love adding the “dirt,” worms, and tombstones.
- Individual Portions: Easy to serve at parties or gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 (3.9 oz) package instant chocolate pudding mix
- 2 cups cold milk
- About 15-20 Oreo cookies
- 6-8 Milano cookies (or other oval-shaped cookies)
- Black decorating gel or edible marker
- Gummy worms
- 6-8 clear plastic cups or small glasses
Instructions
- Prepare the chocolate pudding according to the package directions using the cold milk. Let it set in the refrigerator for at least 5 minutes.
- While the pudding sets, place the Oreo cookies in a zip-top bag. Seal the bag and crush the cookies using a rolling pin or the bottom of a glass until they resemble fine dirt crumbs. (Alternatively, use a food processor).
- Take the Milano cookies and use the black decorating gel or edible marker to write “RIP” or draw a small cross on one end of each cookie to make them look like tombstones.
- Assemble the Cups: Spoon a layer of crushed Oreos into the bottom of each clear cup.
- Add a generous layer of chocolate pudding over the Oreos.
- Add another layer of crushed Oreos (“dirt”) on top of the pudding.
- Stick one or two gummy worms into the “dirt,” making them look like they are crawling out.
- Carefully insert a Milano cookie “tombstone” upright into the back of each pudding cup.
- Chill the graveyard cups in the refrigerator for at least 15-20 minutes before serving to allow the layers to set slightly.
