Ingredients
- 1 (16 oz) can refried beans
- 1 (1 oz) packet taco seasoning
- 1 cup guacamole (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 cup sour cream, divided
- 1 cup salsa (your favorite kind)
- 1 cup shredded Mexican blend cheese (or cheddar/Monterey Jack)
- 1/2 cup sliced black olives
- 2 tablespoons chopped green onions or chives
- Optional: Plastic spider for decoration
- Tortilla chips for serving
Instructions
- First, in a small bowl, mix the refried beans with the taco seasoning until well combined.
- Next, spread the seasoned refried beans evenly in the bottom of a clear glass pie plate or a shallow serving dish (about 9-10 inches).
- Carefully spread the guacamole over the bean layer, trying to keep the layers distinct.
- Take about 3/4 cup of the sour cream and spread it gently over the guacamole layer. Reserve the remaining 1/4 cup for the web.
- Spoon the salsa evenly over the sour cream layer.
- Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly over the salsa.
- Top the cheese layer with the sliced black olives and chopped green onions.
- Decorate the Web: Place the reserved 1/4 cup of sour cream into a small zip-top bag. Then, snip a tiny corner off the bag.
- Carefully pipe the sour cream onto the top layer of the dip in concentric circles, starting from the center and working your way out.
- Take a toothpick or a thin skewer. Starting from the center circle, gently drag the toothpick outwards towards the edge of the dish. Wipe the toothpick clean. Repeat this motion several times around the circle to create the web effect.
- Optional: Place a clean plastic spider on the web for extra creepiness!
- Finally, chill the dip for at least 30 minutes before serving with tortilla chips.
Tips
Make sure your sour cream for the web isn’t too thin. However, if it seems runny, you can stir in a tiny bit of cream cheese to thicken it slightly before piping. Using a clear dish really shows off the spooky layers!
